A Closer Look at Honey as a Home Remedy

Throughout history, people have considered honey as a natural remedy for different diseases and conditions.  Not only does it come in a range of colors, it also contains a good number of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, vitamins, and minerals that are essential for the body.  In fact, honey is one of the most effectual beauty treatments that provide nourishment for the hair and the skin.

In addition, its antifungal properties are advantageous in sterilizing and hastening one’s recovery process from burns, scratches, and wounds.  Since honey is of great use, you may find different home remedies that you can make out of it.  For instance, you may use honey as a cold, cough, or sore throat remedy.  Simply take 1-2 teaspoons of honey daily until you notice a sign of improvement on your condition.

Aside from the aforementioned purpose of honey, you may also use it to treat your sinus and stomach problems.  The procedure is very easy – create a mixture of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1-2 tablespoons of honey, and add it to a cup or glass of apple juice.  Concerning cuts and scratches, you may apply a thin layer or honey on the affected area, and its antimicrobial properties will gradually heal and free your wounds from bacteria.

More often than not, people use honey as a beauty remedy, which comes in the forms of toner, face scrub, facemask, cleanser, conditioner, lotion, moisturizer, and mouthwash, amongst others.  For example, you may create a toner out of honey and apple by means of blending the two ingredients, and applying the mixture on your face.  For best results, allow it to rest for 15-20 minutes, and gently wash your face afterward.

What is interesting about honey is that there is no known side effects that come with it upon moderate use.  Nevertheless, experts recommend that you do not feed infants with raw honey, principally for the reason that it contains C. botulinum spores that may affect the immune system of newborns.
